RIDDICKANCO ORIGINAL PRACTICE · BEGINNER → APPLIED WORK

Know what you’re building.

No prerequisite for this free learning activity. Read the lesson, try the decision check, then write and revise your own work. Time estimates include practice; take longer when you need it.

By the end, you can practice

  • Record a specific condition without blame.
  • Combine worker reports with observations and records.
  • Draft an escalation and follow-up handoff.

Your portfolio piece

A fictional hazard-observation register with an owner and recheck plan.

Label fictional work as a practice sample. Remove personal, customer and confidential workplace information before sharing.

How this connects to ISO and work

ISO 45001:2018 + Amd 1:2024 · conceptual connection

Worker participation, hazard identification and risk-informed planning. This is an independent learning connection, not a clause-by-clause interpretation, ISO endorsement, accredited course or auditor/personnel qualification. Consult the applicable standard and your organization’s requirements for real work.

Illustrative roles to explore

Safety technician support, warehouse coordination and operations support. These are examples of where the practiced skill may be useful, not verified vacancies or a hiring guarantee.

Safety technicians typically need at least a high-school diploma and on-the-job training; specialists typically need a relevant bachelor’s degree. Employers may require additional experience, certification and site-specific authorization. This activity does not satisfy those requirements.

BLS career requirements: safety specialists and technicians ↗

If a role requires a recognized credential, verify the specific provider, course recognition, assessment and prerequisites before enrolling. These free RiddickanCo labs are separate from paid provider training.

Awareness and desk practice only. Use fictional scenarios. Do not enter hazardous areas or test equipment to complete an exercise. This is not OSHA Outreach, first-aid, rescue, confined-space, electrical, fall-protection or lockout/tagout authorization, and does not replace employer-required practical training.

Find the signal

Collect more than a visual impression. A walkthrough can combine worker observations, near misses, incident records, equipment instructions and safety data sheets. Record the specific condition and location; do not assign blame.

ON THE FLOOR
At the loading area, a pallet partially blocks the marked aisle. Two workers say this also happens during shift change. Record the observation and ask about how frequently the path is blocked.

Make the call

What is the strongest first record?

Describe a fictional work area, one observable hazard, its location, and one source you would check next. Do not include a person's name.
